What percent of your healthcare dollar is spent by the costliest
5% of your workforce?

In a recent data brief*, the National Institute for Health Care Management Foundation delivered an analysis of Medical Expenditure Panel Survey data indicating that 50 percent of the healthcare dollar is spent by the costliest 5 percent of the workforce. This 5 percent is likely to have one or more chronic conditions and/or functional limitations. Also evidenced in this brief is the persistence of high-spenders, supporting the need for an effective chronic disease management program to contain healthcare expenditures.
